Windshield & Glass Coating in Orange County, NY

Rain that leaves on its own above 45 mph.

A hydrophobic coating for your windshield, side glass and mirrors. Water pulls into beads and blows off as you drive, night glare from wet glass drops, and winter ice gives up far more easily. It's an add-on we apply while we're already at your vehicle for the headlights.

Wet night driving is the worst case

Rain on glass scatters oncoming headlights straight into your eyes. Coated glass sheds it instead. Ask about adding it when you text.

What It Does

Water stops clinging to your glass

Untreated automotive glass is more porous than it looks. Water spreads across it in a sheet, headlights refract through that sheet, and your wipers end up smearing a film of road grime around instead of clearing it. In heavy rain at night that combination is genuinely tiring to drive through.

A hydrophobic coating changes the surface so water can't lay flat on it. Droplets pull into tight beads and, once you're moving at any real speed, the airflow takes them off the windshield for you. Wipers do less work, and what they do do is more effective.

Where we apply it

  • The windshield β€” the panel that matters most
  • Front side windows, for your mirror sightlines
  • Door mirrors, where wipers can't help you
  • Rear glass on vehicles without a wiper
  • Truck and van glass that collects road film fast

The Process

How the glass is prepared and coated

Glass has to be genuinely clean and decontaminated first. A coating applied over bonded road film just locks the film in.

Wash and dry the glass

Everything obvious comes off first, along with any old rain-repellent product that's still hanging on.

Decontaminate the surface

Bonded mineral deposits and road film are removed so the coating meets bare glass, not a layer of residue.

Apply and level

The coating is worked across the glass evenly and levelled before it flashes, which is what prevents streaking.

Cure and check for streaks

We look at it against the light from inside and out before finishing, because streaks show up at night, not in a driveway.

What You Notice

Three differences you feel immediately

This is one of the few things you can do to a car where the benefit shows up on the very next drive.

Rain leaves on its own

Above roughly 45 mph, beads get carried off the windshield by airflow. In steady rain you'll use the wipers noticeably less.

Less scatter at night

A sheet of water refracts every oncoming headlight. Beads scatter far less of it into your eyes.

Ice and frost release

Frost and light ice don't grip coated glass the way they grip bare glass β€” scraping gets much quicker.

Worth Knowing

Why this matters more on Hudson Valley roads

Unlit rural roads and wet weather are the exact conditions where windshield clarity does the most work.

On a lit suburban street a filmy windshield is a nuisance. On 17A over the mountain in the rain, with no street lighting and oncoming high beams, it's the difference between seeing the road and seeing a smear of light.

  • Wet-night glare. Water films turn every oncoming headlight into a starburst across your field of view.
  • Winter mornings. Coated glass gives up frost and ice far more readily than bare glass does.
  • Wiper wear. Less standing water means less dragging, which is easier on the blades and the glass.
  • It pairs with headlights. Clear lenses put more light out; clean glass means more of it reaches your eyes usefully.

Pricing

Quoted with your headlight restoration

Price depends on how much glass you want coated and what condition it's in β€” a windshield alone is different from every window on a full-size SUV.

This is a secondary service. The 2-year warranty applies specifically to headlight restoration β€” glass coating is quoted separately, and how long it lasts depends on wiper use, washing and mileage.

Locally Owned Small Business

Applied properly, or not at all

I'm Richard. A glass coating that's rushed streaks, and you only find out about it the first time you drive into oncoming headlights at night β€” so I'd rather take the extra few minutes on the levelling than hand back something you'll notice.

If your windshield is pitted or already sandblasted from highway miles, a coating won't fix that, and I'll tell you so before you pay for it.

The Rest Of What We Do

Headlights first β€” trim restoration also available

Headlight restoration is the main service and the reason we come out. These are the other two things that can happen in the same appointment.

Mobile headlight restoration

The primary service: cloudy, yellowed lenses sanded back to clear and sealed against UV, with a 2-year warranty. Starting at $199.

Plastic trim restoration

The other add-on β€” faded grey bumper trim, mirror caps and cowl panels brought back to a deep satin black with a bonded coating.

Good to Know

Glass coating questions

Is this the same as the rain repellent I can buy in a bottle?
It's the same idea done properly. The consumer bottles work briefly, then wear off in weeks β€” mostly because the glass was never decontaminated first and the product is thinner. Prep is most of the job.
Will it damage my wipers or my windshield?
No. It's a surface coating on the glass. If anything it's easier on wipers, because they're dragging through less standing water.
Do I still need wipers?
Yes β€” this isn't a replacement for them. At low speed and in stop-start traffic you'll still wipe. The difference shows up once you're moving.
Can I get this without the headlight restoration?
It's built as an add-on to a headlight visit, which is what keeps it worth doing. Ask when you text and we'll tell you what's possible.
